Second Sunday School overview

In direct response to the political climate in this country, we've decided to host monthly action days here at the studio, and we're calling it Second Sunday School, because they will take place the 2nd Sunday of the month, and because we're hoping we all learn a thing or two (and take that new knowledge and share it with others) through the course of these events. One of the things we decided as we processed the 2024 election was that community will come to mean more than anything, and that we can't be still and quiet as this new administration starts enacting the plans they have proclaimed are at the top of their lists. We hosted anyone who needed a safe place to craft and cry the day the results were announced, and it was a special day, filled with special people. We want to take that feeling and push it out, do what we can to make a difference against this administration and the frankly backwards beliefs they tout.

Our goal in deepening our community is to use these Sundays to take action, both large and small, to help further our agenda of creating a community that cares.

BOOK CLUB
We will host a quarterly book club (and the first book club discussion, led by the amazeballs Lori Patterson of Abstract Fiber, will focus on Mia Birdsong's gorgeous How We Show Up and will be in February). Grab your copy from Maggie Mae's (our local bookshop) or your local bookshop! We might have some community copies for folks to borrow. Other books we'll be reading this year: Be a Revolution by Ijeoma Oluo and Let's Move the Needle by Shannon Downey.

CRAFTING FOR A CAUSE
We are in talks about hosting a few crafting-centered days, so check back for more information!

ACTION CAMPAIGNS
We are also planning on at least quarterly letter-writing, postcarding, and/or phone bank campaigns, and each meeting will include a list of phone numbers/email addresses/websites to utilize for your own outreach.

Each meeting will have a small charge associated with it (with some having a larger charge to pay our moderators for their time). We are also encouraging folks to bring food to share, and ideas about outreach/campaigns we should focus on.

Have questions? Have ideas about a topic, or would you like to present (or get more info on presenting at one of our Second Sundays?) Please let us know by commenting here, or emailing us at hello@knittedwit.com. We'll answer your questions and update this post so it contains all relevant and up-to-date information.

And, if you have postcards, stamps, etc that you'd like to bring to donate/share for the group, please do! We are really leaning into community with this endeavor, so would love everyone to be a part of it in every way they can!

Can't join in person? We're working on ways to ensure that our friends can take part from afar, so please know that we are trying to include as many folks as possible in this endeavor!
